We're in the new house

You just have to wonder why we do it to ourselves when we pack up our entire life to fit into one large moving truck?

We've just done it and to be honest I don't think we'll be rushing to move again for a very long, long time. It's confronting to realise (for closet hoarders like me, that is) the little bits of memorabilia we have been holding on to for many years can be so easily discarded in the rubbish bin on moving day!

front entry (with dusty footprints for authenticity)

There are packing boxes, pictures frames and quite random sh*t scattered throughout the new house, but at least we are in our new digs. It's slowly starting to feel like home, but we can't wait until we have more time to devote to putting our things in their proper placed.

Living and dining rooms

We spent most of the weekend getting the new place into some semblance of order, while this week has been preparing the Sow's Ear to be tenanted. You should see the poor old piggy; naked and bare. I'll show you some photos as a final farewell to the our old home.

So, onwards and upwards as they say. We do have quite a bit to do on this mid-century house which will now be the main focus of our blog. I guess the principal aim is to show how mid-century homes are worth saving too - they don't necessarily have to be knocked down or  be completely gutted. The blog will be about embracing the modernist style and tweakng it to suit how we live in 2014.

We've already made some small improvements and I can't wait to share them with you.

  4. The house is absolutely marvelous, and knowing the kind of love you and Jason put into your last home, the new one will be flawless before you know it...although I have to say that it already looks that way to me. The door hardware, the ceiling, the floors, those beautiful partial walls in wood and the light fixtures!!! All to die for. I'm so happy for you and your family. I can't wait to see what you plan to do next.

  6. I am so excited! I can't wait to see your new place and see what you do with it. It must be a relief to have the floors beautifully polished. Imagine if those footprints were on carpet. It is a shock to move. This year I've been taking the cheery approach to culling and have thought 'If I died tomorrow would my kids want this (whatever)' and if I answer 'No', I turf it. Keep the blog posts coming!!

  7. You have no idea how jealous I am! Isn't it crazy that one can have house envy!

  9. Moving house sucks at the best of times. Luckily for us we only lived with the bare basics while we were renting, so a lot of our stuff was already packed away in anticipation for the next big move (and hopefully the last one for a long, long time.) But it is a good excuse to have a declutter and get rid of a whole heap of stuff you no longer require (i.e. all the baby stuff - I definitely won't be needing those again.) Love, love, love your new house and I can't wait to see more of it. Hope you are settling in nicely. xx

  10. We are slowly psyching ourselves up for what will be the last move for at least a decade - if there is another one before that then we have won the lottery and my minions will be running around doing all the work for us ! Can't wait to see more of this house and how it evolves under Jason's paintbrush ;-) Congratulations guys!

    Cheers, Col

  12. All your "stuff" looks like it really belongs in this new place. The Sow's Ear was a lovely house but I have a feeling you've found your "home". Congratulations on the move.
